Alright, so I got a VPS and rebuilt the #yunohost and #Friendica setup that I was previously trying to self-host on my RasPi.

I didn't want to try to figure out Friendica's experimental account import/export, and I didn't trust that federation wouldn't break if I just started a new account at the same address as my previous one, so I ended up putting friendica on "the.icosahedron.network" rather than "icosahedron.network" like it was before.

I did put a writefreely install at "icosahedron.network" because it was easier than making a webpage with a link to "the.icosahedron.network" or a redirect on it, and now that I think about it, it uses the same "@cryptica@icosahedron.network" that the previous install of friendica did. So hopefully that doesn't cause issues, but TBH as long as writefreely shows that one blog post with the link in it, I don't really care about potential federation issues.

Anyway, the upshot is that #selfhosting stuff on a raspberry pi is cool so long as you don't need email to happen, but social media servers kinda need functioning email, so here we are.

#selfhosting reshared this.

in reply to Cryptica😸💖

Also, apparently with hetzner you can't open the email ports until your account is like a month old, so I still don't even have working email after everything, but I will have the ABILITY to open the email ports eventually.
