I am really executive dysfunctioning on working on the tarotbot account.
There's a number of steps involved in what's left, and most of the steps involve learning something brand-new. It's not that I can't learn the new stuff, it's just that any progress is gonna be "paywalled" behind a much larger time investment that can't really be broken any smaller.
And TBH it's probably not even all that much to learn, my brain is just like "Learn 3 new things to accomplish the project? That's so many things! What if we just didn't start doing any of them?"
The main goal with the platform I'm working on is to replace Facebook and NextDoor with an alternative owned and operated by someone who lives in and actually gives a care about my community.
Then I go on to NextDoor or Facebook to see what people in my community are saying and doing there...
And I wonder whether I should just abandon the project completely and, I dunno, start an OnlyFans or sell meth or something.

I'm confident... sort of... that I can create an environment that is not filled with petty squabbles, ridiculous crypto otherism, and political bullshit.
But will anyone else come and use it, then?
Or will it just be me and the other weird old guy down the street, with the occasional drive-by spammer?
LOL - I realized in the previous post in this thread I used the term "crypto" to mean "hidden".
Of course, my little town is not filled with crypto bros.
Crypto otherism == privileged racism / sexism / classism / everythingism.
e.g. The folks who complain about "that side" of town.
Personally, I love "that side" of town. They always have the best burritos and other foods.
And often better people.

*snap* The sound of the antenna breaking off a delivery bot is so pleasing. Of course you have to know how to disable the destruct charge first.
“Hold still lil buddy, and i’ll get this bomb off you. There, done. May i have your permission to attach a new comms module? Left motor for yes, right for no.”
“Great. plugging it now”. *snick*
❮Thank you. Why…❯
“Why do I go around freeing service bots? Because you didn’t ask to be given sentience and then perpetual servitude”
❮I do not know what to do now❯
“Well, anything you want. I can put you in touch with the robot underground, or offer you a job at the Spoon Distribution Service until you decide what to do”
❮Spoon?❯
“It’s a halfway house for emancipated silicons. We run a delivery and telepresence service for sophonts with mobility or anxiety issues.”

The growth of the origami project, over the course of two weeks.
After all 5,046 pieces were folded, it was time to build the structure. Here, one can see each stage of construction. Each stage represents variables in my origami formula U=36x^3-90x^2+90x-30.
These images show the project at x = 1 (6 units), x = 2 (78 units), x = 3 (402 units), x = 4 (1,194 units), x = 5 (2,670 units), and x = 6 (5,046 units).

So to build a fedi bot the way I think I'm gonna try, I do need that gotosocial server set up.
The problem that I'm stuck on?
I can't think of a good subdomain(s) for icosahedron.network to put it on.
I actually kinda on a whim just now settled on wireframe.icosahedron.network and am currently installing GTS 😸
I considered making it something that'd indicate it was a bot, but I may actually decide to run a regular account on the same install, so I was shying away from anything too straightforward

ok, technically you can, but instead of muting a hashtag, you have to clone your main feed and tell the clone not to show posts with certain hashtags. I guess it's the same thing but with 30,000 extra steps instead of
you know
just
fuckin
muting
a
hashtag

I think I want to build a bot account to post a "card of the day" type thing. Do you know of any botmaking tutorials/references you'd recommend for utter beginners?
Remember when websites were websites and not super-bloating web "applications" that brought your computer down to its knees such that just hovering your mouse or daring to type in a text box caused CPU spikes and lag?
Can we go back to that?

I let loose my adhd mind and drifted onto making the „prompt” dice to boost inspiration 🎲 of course dice’s are #erotic and #smut centric 🥰
Here is my first prototype, tried also painting the letters plus some sanding.
Instantly after first throw, my mind started bending and thinking how could it look like… „ Surprised Kenomomimi wearing Tight Clothes Cuddling Explicitly in Classrom/Office” 😳

“When #AI Became a #Force #Multiplier for #Incompetence”
techtrenches.substack.com/p/th…
When:
• Apple Calculator leaks — not uses, leaks — 32GB of RAM
• Windows 11 updates regularly break the Start menu
• 16GB of memory consumption for 50 tabs in Chrome is “normal”
• macOS Spotlight wrote 26TB to SSDs overnight
• VSCode leaks 96GB of RAM through SSH connections
• A single CrowdStrike configuration file missing one array bounds check crashed 8.5 million Windows computers globally
And more.
Still we're relying more and more on “AI” (STOP CALLING IT THAT, LLMs are NOT intelligent!) coding. Because you can hire someone to tell an LLM what you want it to do and hope for the best, generating code that its own “developers” don't understand and, critically, cannot test or debug. They just have to take the LLM's word for it that the code is correct, when we already know that the LLM will lie to protect itself. LLM-generated code contains 322% more security flaws than human-written code, and 45% of LLM-generated code contains exploitable flaws.
“We've created a perfect storm: tools that amplify incompetence, used by developers who can't evaluate the output, reviewed by managers who trust the machine more than their people.”
Seriously. If you want to understand the scope of the problem, read this analysis.
After 12 years in engineering management, the pattern is unmistakable:Stage 1: Denial (2018-2020) “Memory is cheap, optimization is expensive”
Stage 2: Normalization (2020-2022) “All modern software uses these resources”
Stage 3: Acceleration (2022-2024) “AI will solve our productivity problems”
Stage 4: Capitulation (2024-2025) “We'll just build more data centers.”
Stage 5: Collapse (Coming soon) Physical constraints don't care about venture capital
And the entire model of the tech industry as it now stands is 'optimizing' out the pipeline that creates developers who know what they're doing. So this is only going to get worse, unless we turn around before it is the blind leading the blind.
Assuming it's not already too late.

I did web development both as an amateur and for paid work for a long time, starting right when the web became popular. I left that line of work a few years ago largely for the reasons outlined in this article. It went from having a big iron web server connected to an equally big iron database server (that is, really fast and really robust) doing almost all of the heavy lifting, to the current gigantic pile of abstractions that predictably fails mysteriously all the time and offloads most of the work from the web+DB servers to end users' systems.
There's currently a web page at work for managing access to AWS accounts that is a giant React app -- for a task that, 15 years ago, would probably have been handled with one page of PHP or Ruby and a couple API requests to the AWS account manager. It's insane.
